Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report:
The fishing has really perked up over the last week locally and over at the Gulf Islands. There are still good numbers of chinook around and more to come. Coho have been slow to arrive but we are optimistic we will see a good push here over the next 2 weeks to the Capilano River.
Pink salmon numbers are building every day and this should continue for the next 3 weeks just in time for the larger run of Fraser river pinks to start rolling in late August and early September.
Over the next 3 months we will see millions of salmon approach our local waters as they stage to go into their natal streams.
Ling cod fishing has been steady as well over in the gulf islands.
Chinook have been responding well to spoons in the 3-4″ sizes and in particular the glow green and silver Gibbs/Delta and Rapala spoons. Hoochies are also producing in shades of white and glow greens. The few coho that are around really like white hoochies and small apex in pink and blue shades. Fish shallow for the coho and a bit deeper for chinook. Pink salmon like to chase the pink and red micro squirts but are also known to hit most gear if it is in front of them.
Anchovy and herring will always work for coho and chinook but they have not been necessary so far this July.
