Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report
Vancouver salmon fishing continues to be pretty good. We have had several charters over the weeks with over a dozen hook-ups and most of those landed at the boat. Now, not all are legal size but lots of action all the same. For a week there the action was a bit slower but we seem to have found more fish lately. The average size has gone down a few pounds over the last few weeks but we are anticipating bigger fish over the next few weeks.
April is historically when we start to see good numbers of larger chinook show up in local waters. Mid April to be more precise is when we really see the action pick up. Trolling the same spoons as during our winter fishery but larger sizes and we start to use a few more squid imitations in glow colours. The odd time we fish bait if the fish are picky but due to the unusually large amount of Pacific Hake (cod) in the area we won’t be using as much this spring. Last April and May we had fantastic fishing so now is the time to book your fishing charter.
Crab fishing has been productive when we don’t have our traps raided by local thieves or the commercial fisherman. Prawn fishing has also been good on our longer charters.

Ucluelet Fishing Report:
We have just got our boats back in the water for what looks like an AWESOME year of salmon fishing in Ucluelet. We are very excited about the summer to come….
DFO had just announced their forecast for what they believe to be some of the best Chinook numbers in 10 years. The west coast of Vancouver Island as well as the inside passage should see some excellent numbers of chinook migrating down the coast from May to September. Well over 1,000,000 chinook are expected to migrate down the coast this summer. This means excellent chinook angling from our location in Ucluelet and hopefully some of the same from Vancouver. Since this announcement we are selling out fast in Ucluelet so book your days soon or you will just have to enjoy our reports until next year.
Coho numbers are stable which means good opportunity for the same daily and possession limits as the last few years.
Sockeye numbers are not expected to be high this year but this can change on a dime with the accuracy of predicting sockeye numbers over the last 20 years. DFO is getting better at it but it is still just a guess for some reason when it comes to sockeye.
Pink numbers will be good for Vancouver Island streams but the Fraser and mainland streams are on a off year for pinks.
Fraser River Sturgeon Fishing:
Sturgeon fishing has been very good the last few weeks and it will just get better. The Eulachons are now in the river and the sturgeon are zoning in on this fish for most of their feeding. Lots of our trips are landing double digit numbers of sturgeon. April and May is some of the best sturgeon angling of the year so book now. We run daily charters out of Chilliwack.
