Vancouver Salmon Fishing Report – July 29, 2015

Looks like there will be an opening Aug 1 for salmon fishing off the Fraser river mouth!  This is exciting news as huge numbers of Pinks and Chinook are staging off the river mouth and further north right now and it should be great fishing.  We will start to focus most of our attention now off the North Arm of the Fraser River and move our way further south as August rolls on.  These locations are just 15 minutes boat ride from our dock for exceptional fishing for Chinook and Pinks.

A few pics of the last week of action off West Vancouver.

The last week we have been having great success along the West Vancouver shoreline and in particular close to Point Atkinson for Coho, Pinks and Chinook.  Anchovy and Herring in glow teaser heads as well as white and pink hoochies have been working well. Our best lure over the weeks has been a pink Apex behind a glow flasher.  Gibbs spoons have taken a few coho as well over the weeks.  Shallow depths between 30-90′ have been working well.

During the month of August we will see huge volumes of Pinks, Sockeye and Chinook move into waters off the Fraser river mouth from the Coal Ports to the North arm.  Historically the months of August means steady action on the rods when the Pinks arrive. Often 30-40 fish days catching Pinks with some big Chinook mixed in.

Sturgeon fishing has been great as well in the lower river as well as around the Mission and Chilliwack area.  Lots of 4-8′ fish coming to the boat and it will just keep getting better. Lamprey eels and salmon roe have been very productive.  The river is dropping fast and the salmon fishing is just days away for an Aug 3 opening.

We have boats ready for fishing from Richmond and Chilliwack.

Well it has remained AWESOME fishing over in Ucluelet for us.  Most days we are getting limits of Chinook and Coho and when the winds are light enough to get out to Big Bank we are getting our halibut as well.  We are seeing more and more fish show up daily and the Chinook fishing has been ‘red hot’ both on Big Bank and along the beaches.  Spoons and hoochies are taking the bulk of the salmon but we start to use large plugs as the big Fraser river Chinook show up and the pilchard arrive.  This is so much fun trolling big plugs with no flasher. Big hits, Big fish and Big fun.  We only have a couple of openings left for August so jump on them now!

It is going to be a great August of fishing so book early to secure your fishing days.
