VANCOUVER AND GULF ISLANDS FISHING REPORT:
We had a wonderful, marathon of charters almost every day the last few weeks and have seen some excellent Chinook angling and a few stinker days mixed in. For the most part, the action locally has been steady with Chinook being landed on almost all trips. Some descent size fish this week with a few in the high teens. (15, 16 + 18lbs.) Yesterday we had a pretty good day fishing off Bowen hitting 5 chinook. We lost 2 of them, released 1 undersize fish and bonked 2. Crabbing has been awesome lately as well.

We have been spending most of our time fishing off the ‘hump’ at various spots over the weeks, but the last few days we have been seeing great action really tight to Pt. Cowen and points north along Bowen Island.
We are picking up our fish relatively shallow the last 4 or 5 trips with depths of 60-110′ being the most productive. We landed a double header yesterday afternoon at depths of 89′ and 109′. Spoons are producing very well, with the glow green/chrome and the Gibbs ‘No Bananas’ working well. Anchovy has produced quite a few fish as well but the massive amounts of Hake in the area make it tough to run bait for long. Glow flashers of all colours are producing.
We are hearing slower fishing reports from the Gulf Islands the last few days but some of our colleagues are ‘lighting it up’ with limits of fish closer to Nanaimo. We have a few Gulf Island charters this week coming up, so we are crossing our fingers the chinook are around in good numbers. Smaller tides should help bring the herring and chinook in higher numbers. Nanaimo areas were producing well last week which tells us there are lots of fish around but the strong tides make it tough to get on them and stay on them.
Now is the time to be fishing the Gulf Islands and we do that on our 8 and 10 hour charters. Our 6 hour and 8 hour local trips are focused around Bowen Island, the mid strait and Horseshoe Bay areas. Crab traps are dropped on all charters.
