Vancouver Salt Water Report
The fishing has been pretty good most days out in the Vancouver harbour and around Bowen Island. There are good numbers of 5-15lb feeder chinook around chasing herring. We’ve had great action on our full day charters the last month and this should continue through May before we transition to offshore areas like the Hump and Gabriola for migrating chinook.
Spoons are taking the majority of the fish but plugs and hoochies are productive as well. The last week we have seen the fish come off the bottom a bit and are feeding actively in 80-160′. As April approaches we run a few lines on bottom and a few higher up to target these feeding fish. Crab fishing has been good as well.
We are anticipating a great spring chinook fishery both here in local Vancouver waters and across the strait around Gabriola Island and Nanaimo. May 1 is the opening for rock and ling cod so now is the time to book your salmon and cod charters.
We are prepping our boats for the beginning of the west coast Vancouver Island season for salmon and halibut and we will be at it hard in late April for the rest of the summer.
