Vancouver Fishing Report
The local winter chinook fishing in Vancouver continues to be good, with some slow days and some great days mixed in. Howe Sound and Bowen Island continue to kick out some beautiful chinook as well as the Vancouver harbour. The Gulf Islands continue to produce well, although we have not been over there in a few weeks our friends on the island tell us the chinook fishing continues to be good. We are still fishing our favourite spoon and flasher combos on or near the bottom. Glow and UV spoons in white, blue and purple seem to be the best producers. Glow hoochies and white hoochies are also producing. Don’t be afraid to mix it up until you dial in the right combo.
Crab and prawn fishing continues to be strong in the Vancouver Harbour.
The fishing should continue to get better as the spring months roll on. The chinook will be getting fatter by the day as they gorge themselves on the abundant herring in the Georgia Strait. Late April we will start to see some early Fraser chinook show up here on the outskirts of the Vancouver Harbour. All indications from the strong winter fishery we are having the spring chinook run should be great. As May and June comes, we will be chasing the chinook over on the Gulf Islands around Gabriola Island and the Nanaimo area. Stay tuned for this awesome fishery. Cod and halibut fishing will also be an option on the longer gulf island charters for May – July.
*We are starting to get some good fishing reports from Ucluelet from our associates. Winter chinook, crab and prawn fishing are all doing well. We will start to see the first of the Columbia River chinook showing up in April in Ucluelet. This huge run of dime brite and hard fighting chinook will just get stronger and strong well into July. They are estimating over 1,000,000 chinook again this year to the Columbia River.
